Awareness Through Movement® Classes Term 1

As Julie Andrews sings, “Let’s start at the very beginning, a very good place to start, when you read you begin with A-B-C, when you sing you begin with DO-RE-MI.”
When we move, we begin with exploration, stimulation and curiosity.
We integrate reflexes, develop head control, learn to sense feed-back from the ground, reach, and turn.
Gradually we learn movement patterns that become the ‘do-re-mi’ for more complex movement patterns.
These basic movement patterns for gait, squat, reaching and turning lead to walking, running, throwing, climbing and more…
Following the January classes, in term 1 we are going to explore easier ways to squat, reach, turn and ambulate (at any level from a meander to a run, a slope to a mountain). If you’re wondering how this might apply to you think picnics, outdoor concerts, camping holidays or ‘ready about…. Lee ho!’, playing with children, climbing in and out of small cars, or even up in to 4WDs. When the ground is your friend, and you have many ways to get close to it and across it comfortably, the world may become your oyster again!
Class dates and times:
Monday 9.15am – 10.15am, Feb 4th to Apr 8th, 2019
Thursday 6.00pm-7.00pm, Feb 7th to Apr 11th, 2019
Jenny D’Cruz is a Feldenkrais Practitioner and Physiotherapist.
She has been teaching Awareness Through Movement classes since 2015. Classes are suitable for all ages, including those with injuries and reduced mobility. Please contact Jenny if you have questions, and if you are new to class you will be asked to complete a confidential medical form in order for her to provide best practice.
Venue: Yoga Moves Studio, 45 Evans Street, Shenton Park
The studio is a separate hall attached to the West Subiaco Masonic Hall (‘Google’ 78 Herbert Road for directions) and our entrance is on Evans Street opposite Lake Jualbup.
What to wear: Loose comfortable clothes you can move in (skirts are not suitable). All equipment is provided but it is a good idea to BYO towel and arrive 5-10 mins early to prepare.
