Come and Learn Wake Up! A Feldenkrais®-Inspired Sequence
Feldenkrais meets yoga meets meditation meets lIfe!
Feldenkrais Method® practitioner, Sara Elderfield will lead 3 sessions of Wake Up! for those who are new to the sequence (or are wanting to review the basics). Come along and experience:
the multiple ways to move from standing to sitting to lying on the floor, and back up to standing.
moving across the floor with grace and ease
flexion (folding movements), extension (arching movements), side bending and rotation (twisting and spiraling movements)
practising focusing both inside and outside i.e. both awareness of how you are moving, and of the environment in which you are moving.
identifying more clearly the internal feelings that each of these movements can evoke for you.
This exploratory sequence of Awareness Through Movement lessons, was put together by European theatre teacher, Monika Pagneux, to help performers "wake up", to be ready to play and to follow their impulses on stage (or in life!). It has been further developed by theatre practitioner Anna Yen who has studied extensively with Pagneux and is teaching it around Australia. She has given permission for other Feldenkrais practitioners to share it. Many of the W.A. Feldenkrais practitioners have been working/playing with it in their classes this year in preparation for Anna’s return (5th and 6th October 2019) to teach us all the next part. This is an opportunity to learn the basic sequence and to do a little extra practise (if you would like it) before Anna arrives in October.
Pre-requisites: a willingness / preparedness to explore dynamic movements. Those with significant injuries must speak with Sara before enrolling.
Dates and Time: 3 Saturdays – 3, 10, 17 August 1pm – 2.30pm.
Time: As above. Please arrive 5 minutes early to collect the equipment you will need and set up your place.
Venue: Centre for Movement Studies and Yoga Moves Studio, 45 Evans Street, Shenton Park. The studio is a separate hall attached to the West Subiaco Masonic Hall (‘Google’ 78 Herbert Road for directions) and the entrance is on Evans Street opposite Lake Jualbup.
What to bring: You will need to wear clothing that you can move and breathe in (no tight waistbands, jeans or belts etc). All equipment is supplied but please bring your own if you prefer to use your own equipment.
Sara is a Feldenkrais Method practitioner and meditator. She has been teaching yoga as a form of movement meditation practice for 20 years. Since 2000, she has been leading yoga, Feldenkrais, meditation and hiking retreats to Bali, Nepal, Tibet, Vietnam and France. This year, in November, we are heading to Japan.
Cost: $63 /$54 concession for 3 classes pre-booked and pre-paid. All details below. Casual classes $25 are possible for students who have some previous experience of the Wake Up! sequence. Please text your intention to attend 0415 363 313, 24 hours before class.
