Smart Moves for Sciatica and Back Pain

Get Back on Track: Smart Moves for Sciatica and Back Pain

give your back the support it deserves

Back pain and sciatica are not just mechanical problems — they are patterns held in the nervous system. This 8-week Feldenkrais® course uses movement and the science of neuroplasticity to help you retrain your brain and body for more efficient, pain-free movement in daily life.

What is Sciatica? Sciatica refers to pain, tingling, or numbness that travels from the lower back or buttocks down the leg. It happens when the sciatic nerve—the body’s longest nerve—is irritated or compressed. Everyday habits such as sitting too long, poor posture, or overworked muscles can make it worse.

How the Feldenkrais Method® Can Help Back Pain and Sciatica

Feldenkrais Method® lessons draw on principles of biomechanics, neuroscience, and motor learning and offer a gentle and effective way to reduce discomfort and prevent flare-ups. Through slow, mindful movements you will learn to:

·       Move without pain by exploring comfortable, gentle ranges of motion

·       Improve posture and alignment so pressure is shared evenly through your body

·       Release tension in overworked muscles in the back, hips, and legs

·       Learn practical tools to manage and prevent flare-ups.

·       Explore novel movement sequences that stimulate brain plasticity

·       Build resilience by giving your nervous system new, healthier movement options

Open to all—no prior experience needed. What is the Feldenkrais Method®?

The Feldenkrais Method is a gentle, mindful approach to movement and learning. It works with your nervous system to enhance mobility, improve posture, and ease pain by teaching your brain new options for movement.

Bookings required: email Sara: sara@yogamoves.net.au or phone/text 0415 363 313.

Cost: By dana - the Joy of Mindful Generosity. In the Buddhist tradition, dana means giving freely with a generous and open heart. It is not about obligation but about appreciating the value of what we receive and sharing what we can to support others. Through mindful giving, you are not just paying—you’re fostering gratitude, care, and connection.

When offering dana for a class, consider:

Value: Reflect on the effort and care behind the experience.

Generosity: Give an amount that feels meaningful and aligned with your circumstances.

Connection: Know your contribution supports your teacher’s livelihood, a community of learning and growth and the venue in which it occurs.

How to offer dana: Cash or direct transfer payments accepted: (There is a bowl at the entrance of the class, and it is customary to offer your dana at the beginning of the class. It is not considered good etiquette to make change in the bowl. Mindful generosity includes contemplating and organizing yourself before arriving at class).

For direct transfer please use your name as the reference and send an email to Sara: sara@yogamoves.net.au
