Feldenkrais for Flexible Strength

Organising the Body for Lightness & Power

6 week course with Sara Elderfield

If your limbs felt light and your torso powerful, what could you not do?

Improve your flexibility and then build strength in a way that feels sustainable. This weekly course integrates the Feldenkrais Method® with the use of gentle resistance exercises to support joint health, bone strength, and everyday resilience. Through gentle, attentive movement, you’ll learn how to organise your body more efficiently—so effort is reduced and strength becomes more accessible.

Using resistance bands and simple props, the focus is not on pushing harder, but on sensing more clearly and coordinating your whole self in action. This approach helps develop strength that is adaptable and applicable for daily life.

Equipment required: This is a small, progressive course designed for continuity, with the expectation of simple home practice between sessions. Participants will need to bring (or purchase) two pieces of inexpensive equipment for the classes and home practice. Both pieces have multiple uses and functions.

Awareness Through Movement® (ATM) is a guided movement process that uses attention and variation to engage the nervous system in learning. By refining sensory awareness (proprioceptive, vestibular, and visual), the brain updates how actions are organised, supporting neuroplastic change. Improvements in function — such as balance, agility, coordination, and posture — emerge as a result of this learning, rather than through effort or correction.

Sara Elderfield is a Feldenkrais Method® Practitioner & Assistant Trainer. She is a long-time meditator and taught yoga as a form of movement meditation practice for 25 years.
