Jess is a clinical psychologist, registered yoga teacher and Trauma Centre Trauma-Sensitive Yoga facilitator (TCTSY-F). She facilitates trauma-informed yoga, offering a safe, collaborative and empowering space to participate in yoga and yoga therapy courses. Trauma-informed yoga is supportive of individuals who have experiences of trauma and anyone who would like to practice yoga that is guided by the trauma-informed care principles of safety, trustworthiness, empowerment, choice and collaboration. Currently Jess facilities a weekly trauma-informed Vinyasa Flow class and a 5-week yoga therapy course Yoga for Trauma Recovery.

Yoga for Trauma Recovery is informed by her experience as a clinical psychologist and TCTSY-F. It is designed to be helpful for individuals with experiences of trauma, complex trauma and other mental health issues. In this course, participants learn about and practice grounding, making choices, body awareness, breathing practices and present moment awareness.

ongoing class: Yoga for Well-Being,

11 weeks, 16 apr - 25 June

This Hatha yoga class is designed to promote mental health and well-being. Participants will have an opportunity to practice mindful movement and breathing, restorative shapes, mindfulness and meditation practices, and making choices and feelings empowered in their bodies. It is a trauma-informed class guided by psychological theory, neuroscience, and yogic philosophy. 

Ongoing class on Tuesdays: Yoga for Well-Being + ZOOM 9.30am - 10.30am . Open to all. $28.

Yoga for Trauma Recovery (TCTSY)

5 week course

In this course you can expect to learn about and practice mindfulness and meditation, grounding, making choices and feeling empowered in your body, emotional and autonomic regulation, distress tolerance, interoception and breath awareness. This is a Trauma Centre Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) practice, an evidence-based intervention for complex trauma and post- traumatic stress. As well as trauma, this course may be helpful for anxiety, low mood and emotional distress. It may be a useful addition to individual psychotherapy. Yoga for Trauma Recovery is a hatha yoga practice suitable for all levels of experience; for individuals 16 years and over. Class sizes are limited to 10 people. Prior to commencing the course, I will contact participants to answer any questions they may have and ask some brief screening questions. Individuals participating in the course do not need to discuss their trauma histories. Chairs are available for participants who would like to choose a chair-based practice.

Cost: $250 for 5 sessions (concession rate available)

Workshop: Monday 18th March:

Yoga for Trauma Recovery, Emotional Regulation & Well-being: Theory, Practice & Clinical Applications

This workshop is for health professionals who would like to learn more about and experience yoga therapy. 

It may be useful for health professionals who are referring clients to yoga therapy, clinicians who would like to learn more about incorporating these techniques into their practice and individuals who are interested in training in yoga therapy and trauma-informed yoga. 

In the workshop we will cover:

Theories that inform yoga therapy and trauma-informed yoga: Interpersonal neurobiology, polyvagal theory, trauma theory, neuroiscence of trauma, attachment theory and trauma-informed care

Yoga therapy and trauma-informed meditation and mindfulness techniques

How yoga can be helpful for complex trauma, post traumatic stress, anxiety, low mood, distress and well-being

Opportunities to participate in trauma-informed mindfulness and yoga, and Trauma Centre Trauma-Sensitive Yoga practices

Yoga for Mental Health and Well-being

Open to all, beginners welcome.

This is an all levels vinyasa yoga class. You can expect to learn about and experience meditation & mindfulness practices; yoga shapes and sequences that are helpful for managing anxiety and depression; strategies to regulate your affect and autonomic nervous system and present moment awareness. This is a trauma-informed yoga class and is supportive of individuals with and without an experience of trauma. Classes include a psycho-education component and hatha yoga practice.

Class sizes are limited to 10 people. Chairs are available for participants who would like to choose a chair- based practice.
